Hyperprolactinemia follows fluoxetine (Prozac®) therapy

A significant proportion of patients, including more than a fifth of women, who have major depressive disorder (MDD) develop hyperprolactinemia after treatment with fluoxetine, US researchers have demonstrated.

There have been several case reports suggesting that treating MDD with selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may be linked with the development of hyperprolactinemia, galactorrhea, and breast enlargement.
